Asian Art Museum of San Francisco presents Matcha

For those who are interested in Japanese tattoos, or even Japanese art, The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco will be displaying a segment on Japanese tattoos Thursday October 2nd. Horitaka from State of Grace Tattoo will be talking about the ancient tradition of Japanese tattooing and will be also demonstrating the Japanese hand-tapping technique. He will be accompanied by highly recognized Japanese tattoo artists Horitomo, Horiyuki, Shinge, Kazunobu, and Mutsuo. In addition to the hand-tapping demonstration, Japanese teas and cocktails will be offered while a live DJ provides ear candy. This event is from 5-9p and is free with Museum admission. Who The Hell Is Mike Giant?

Mike Giant is recognized as one of the premier and versatile artists in the graffiti and tattoo world. After studying architecture in New Mexico, he began working for Think Skateboards in San Francisco, and later opened up “Stay Gold” a tattoo shop, which he still operates. He also uses his artistic skills in graffiti and tattooing to design shirts for Rebel8, an urban clothing company based out of San Francisco, which displays deep roots in skateboard, graffiti, and tattoo cultures. Monta Ellis Suffers Ankle Injury

Monta Ellis will be missing the first month of the 08-09 basketball season due to an ankle injury and tore a deltoid ligament during an offseason workout. Ellis will also miss training camp and the Warriors preseason schedule which includes a trip to China. With an average of 20.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.4 assists last season, the Warriors are in need of a solution as a result of his absence.

Aside from the exciting digs and spikes, watching sweaty women athletes dive into sand wearing almost nothing made the Olympics a little more easier on the eyes. Offensive Picture or Not?

Spain's Olympic basketball team, including Los Angeles Lakers star Pao Gasol posed for an advertisment in which all the players were slanting their eyes. With the Olympics being held in China, many found this offensive. The Spanish team intended this photo to be "in good fun." What do you think?

Who the hell is Shawn Barber?

Shawn Barber draws his artistic skills primarily on painting, portraiture, and documenting tattoo art and culture. Many pieces of his artwork have been displayed in cities such as San Francisco, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Florida, and New York. He has received recognition for his artwork in magazines such as ArtNews, Juxtapoz, and the Artists Magazine. In addition to his paintings, Barber also released two books in 2006 and 2007 called “Tattooed Portraits”. His love for the tattoo culture and arts has pushed him to start tattooing himself. Currently he has been under tattoo apprenticeship with Mike Davis at Everlasting Tattoo in San Francisco, CA.
