San Jose's Proposed Bag Policy

San Jose met a while back to discuss new policy regarding plastic and paper bags in supermarkets. In San Jose's many attempts to go greener, they are proposing the removal of all paper and plastic bags from supermarkets, and perhaps having them replaced by those little guys in the picture. The removal will not include restaurants or paper bags made of recycled paper.

San Jose Bike Trail Threatened

I know not all of you ride the bike trails, but they are pretty useful for many. So now that a proposed bike trail is being threatened by Stucco Supply Co.'s need to build a storage facility, I thought I'd post this article from the San Jose Met Blog. I am a little late with this post, but I hope there is still something we can do to save the trail.

I love San Jose, and I must say, it's always good to hear about what everyone else thinks about the place I call home. In a recent article in yahoo news, they proclaimed San Jose one of America's top 10 places to grow up. The best part is, that it does not seem to be in any particular order, so who knows, San Jose could be America's best place to grow up!

48 Hour Film Project: San Jose

While Bryan, Dom, Sean and I were doing the Halloway Look Book Vol. 2, I saw some folks running around state with a camera and some other randoms. I didn't stop to ask, but then I came across this info on the San Jose Metblogs site.

They were part of the 48 Hour Film Project. And since I missed yesterday's showing, there's only today's showings left. So check it out at Camera 12.

San Jose Makes Steps Towards a Greener Future

San Jose is one step closer to its goal of being 100% energy independent. It has approved a plan to build a biogas plant, that breaks down wastes and creates methane for energy use.

* June 24 – Mad Hot Ballroom (2005/ Rated PG/ 105 minutes) documentary feature directed by Marilyn Agrelo. 
 This inspiring documentary follows 11-year-olds from three schools in the toughest and most culturally diverse neighborhoods in New York City as they are involved in a program that requires students to take ten weeks of ballroom dancing. These kids must overcome awkwardness with the opposite sex, a lack of self-confidence and their tempting surroundings to create a new path for themselves. Although set in modern times in the city of Verona Beach, it is still the same timeless, classic story of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The Montagues and Capulets are two feuding families, whose children meet and fall in love. They have to hide their love from the world because they know that their parents will not allow them to be together. * August 26 – Shaun of the Dead (2004/ Rated R/ 99 minutes) Starring Simon Pegg, Kate Ashfield, Nick Frost, Lucy Davis, and Dylan Moran; directed by Edgar Wright. When he finds that his whole town has turned into a creeping crawling nation of zombies he finds his purpose in life as his friends go on a baddie-bashing spree. San Jose's Downtown Ice

That time of year is coming right around the corner. One of my favorite times of the year. And you know what that means! Christmas in the Park, Hot Chocolate, and ice skating between the palm trees. The ice rink in downtown San Jose, is opening up this Friday the 14th

Downtown Ice is open 5 p.m.-midnight Friday; noon-midnight Saturday, noon-10 p.m. Sunday and 5-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

Admission, $15 for adults and $13 for 12-under, includes skate rental.

Even better, San Jose's own San Jose Sharkie will be there at 3:30 to rep the Shark's winning record on November 16th.

Bart Extension - San Jose

Bart has plans to extend its service into 6 places in the South Bay. And out of those 6 locations, 4 are in San Jose. 1 would be located right off Santa Clara Street in downtown SJ, the others would be located, near the flea market, off of Alum Rock and near the Shark Tank. Other options are being looked into, for example CalTrain extensions of their electrified track transit system, which some say would provide a faster cheaper service to San Francisco. But as far as it goes for me, I would love any train, BART or CalTrain to come to San Jose, so we can make those trips out to SF a little less tedious. One of the other locations not located in San Jose would be, at the Great Mall in Milpitas. I'm excited.

The Helping Hand: Bomb$hell Teamwork?

I've been posting like crazy. But why? In hopes that you'll get out of your seat, so that I can stop sitting in mine. And I think I found a good way to do that. Let's team up! Bomb$hell readers, friends, family or whatever. It's time that we join together and do something positive to help a cause.

The Alliance for Lupus Research is allowing fans of the late great J Dilla, to form "J Dilla Project" teams. And what would these teams do? It's simple

1. Raise awareness of Lupus
2. Provide support for the participants in The Alliance for Lupus Research's Walk-a-thon
3. Walk in the actual walk-a-thon

So how about we do this people? Get a team signed up? And actually walk? It's up to you, and it's for a good cause.

Thoughts: Soldiers

America has been at war for a while now. A war that, at the moment, does not seem to have any real conclusion. And I admit, at this point, this is not a war that I am in support of. For one, those who have read, the art of war, can see that it goes against many of Sun Tzu's philosophies. But I'm not here today, to hate on the war in Iraq. But rather to honor one of the soldier's who is going to be out there defending the U.S. and everything we believe in.

I have a lot of respect for this man. A cocky bastard yes. But he has a lot to be proud of. He has gone from place to place, living here and there, and adjusting to whatever has come his way. From Oregon, to San Jose and Orange County he's pretty much stayed the same. I met him my 7th grade year, and we've been friends ever since. Always with a smile on his face, I have never seen him frown, or be sad. A constant source of inspiration, proof that no matter where you come from you can do big things. He's gone a good portion of his life, fending for himself, and along the way, also for those that he cares about. He's worked his way through college, transferring from OCC, to UCSD in less than 2 years, and continuing on towards his goal of being a teacher. But now, he's off to Iraq for 400 days. Something he's never really complained about, just something he knew he had to do. In a year when so much was going his way, he's getting sent to the desert. I can never do his story justice, but know that he is a good person, who has carried a lot on his shoulders, and done it all in stride.
